@Imhotep What the director of ICU was trying to do is deflect a complaint to the state medical boards and a resulting investigation. Thats why it is imperative to have someone who can advocate for you when you go to the hospital. Medical mistakes aren't the third leading cause of deaths for nothing.

Short anecdote -- Friend of ours, a kidney transplant patient, went in for a bladder infection. She is immunosuppresed. While she was inside she developed blood in the urine. She was on statins for cholesterol levels.

Turns out that there was a Nephrology team team following her because of her transplant status. They never cross referenced the orders from her physicians and were double dosing her statin medication. The nursing staff were blithely administering the dosage without a question. My wife questioned the bloody urine and lo and behold when the chart was consulted. Ooops so sorry. Dosage corrected and bloody urine cleared up.


My wife and I were in the room when the Nephrology team rolled through and one of the DR's commented to our friend
"Boy you dodged a bullet this time"

My wife observed, paraphrasing now
"If you wouldn't keep putting a bullet in the f**k**g gun and pulling the GD trigger no one would have to dodge anything now would they."

Silence. Just got wide eyed stares from the Nephrologist. Probably was wondering if his malpractice insurance was up to date.
