Two things come to mind. One is there's a certain amount of arrogance amongst many doctors and other medical practitioners, especially when it comes to "lay" persons informing THEM about mistakes in THEIR understanding of medical matters.

The second one is there exists in some of us (and it seems to be based on an individual's Jungian personality type) the ability to look at complex systems and readily identify areas where problems are going to arise. People who do well in IT related careers tend to have this ability, and Karl definitely appears to be one of them. But it's an ability that is fairly uncommon.
Others have alluded to it already...how many INTJs are also vaccine skeptics? I bet they're overrepresented.
