There's a process for a fed who fails, ie, gets low performance ratings, then can't perform effectively at their performance improvement plan and is given a notice of removal. Those employees are given a Discontinued Service Retirement, basically an early retirement offer. This if they are at least 50 with 20 years of service (although primarily intended for RIFs, it is also available to people removed for performance-related reasons). This gets them an immediate non-age-reduced pension and they even get a supplement to make up for what Social Security would pay if they were 62 (those payments will be reduced or eliminated if they get another job). They can maintain their health insurance, with the feds picking up the same proportion of the premium as when they were working. That's about as good as it gets when you are terminated because you can't perform. For the same feds who decline vaccination: nothing. They'll get their pension when they hit minimum retirement age, but for someone who is 50 with 20 years of service, they will have to wait until age 60 to get one that is not age-reduced (and will never get the supplement).
