@Olddad - Yep. And as that virus mutates it drifts away from that precise tagging which is why it's viable as a strategy. For decades bioweapons researchers have investigated the possibility of vaccinating the population (perhaps covertly with something added to the annual flu shot, for example) and then releasing something that OUR population is vaccinated against but nobody else is. That SOUNDS good but it fails and ends up killing all your people too because over time your "engineered" virus is VERY likely to mutate, and when it does it will evade the vaccine and now you're fucked. The entire reason this sort of strategy would work in THIS case and NOT run into that problem is that the mutations make the virus HARMLESS instead. You always have to remember when thinking about such things that once you let it loose you lose control over it and cannot get it back. Therefore it is utterly essential that whatever you do does not target your people by accident and if there is any material risk of that happening you're INSANE to develop and deploy it in the first place because Mother Nature is a BITCH and if you're wrong you just killed YOUR population as well.
