Shooting in CA

Dims "promise" to "tackle" gun violence.

How about if we tackle the people who are inclined to such violence instead?

Let's start with who's the shooter?  There are already rumors flying around but I'm not going to play that game; I'll wait until he's identified.  But I will say this -- someone walking into a nightclub and shooting it up like this in cold blood didn't do it on the spur of the moment.  From the reports thus far this sounds like a carefully planned and executed attack by someone who was not only hellbent on their actions but had coldly thought it out and was not in any way surprised, shocked or otherwise unnerved by flying bodies and blood -- not someone who was raged or roided out due to a spat with a girlfriend or something like that.

So is this domestic terrorism?  Probably.  But again -- let's wait until we know eh?

This much I'm sure of -- the gun didn't shoot anyone.  A person did.

Israel has managed to operate in one of the most-hostile places in the world with damn near everyone around them wanting them all dead -- and they mean it too.  Yet they have not suffered any air terrorism (despite it being a very tasty target for such a jackwad) nor do they suffer very many of these sorts of incidents.  A large part of that is because they focus on people, not things; they understand that people with guns on the good side will be the only means of stopping evil bastards, no matter what they're using.

So you have armed people in various otherwise "soft" places - - like schools.  But if you think it's hard to get a fully automatic firearm in that part of the world you're out of your mind.  It's much harder to get one here in the United States than it is there where every terrorist group on the planet has some sort of representation within a few dozen miles.

And then you have people making terrorist threats right here who are not arrested -- like those who did so at Tucker Carlson's home, including one caught on video talking about bombs.  Gee, I wonder where someone gets the idea that they could go shoot up a bar unopposed?

Oh by the way, that makes two bars, right?  Pulse and now this one?  What's the common element?

Firearm carry is broadly illegal in such an establishment.

Maybe it ought not be.

And maybe we ought to focus on people instead of things.

But that doesn't fit the Dim's narrative, does it?  Nope -- especially not when you consider that of the various people who have publicly stated that violence is part of their intent a very large percentage of them are hard-left jackwads.

Agree that it was either a domestic or simply a guy that was blown off in that bar. It's considered a college bar, so some snowflake with a gun who had hurt feelings would make sense.
The other idea would be that it happened a day after the dems took the house and they want to bring gun control back into the picture. The timing just seems too convenient.

Doubt it. Reports from the scene are that it was far too coldly-executed for someone raging. It's one thing to talk about it, it's another to do it, and if you go to do it then managing to be coldly-calculating and execute right on-plan is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT thing.

This doesn't sound like a rage attack.

Here's the shooter

The gunman who killed 12 people in a mass shooting at a bar holding a country night for students has been named as 29 year-old ex-Marine David Ian Long. Long, who went by his middle name, drove his moms car to Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California in the early hours of Thursday, where he shot a doorman and cashier before opening fire inside the bar room. Police raided the heavily-tattooed killers home Thursday morning, with neighbors saying describing him as a veteran who suffered from PTSD.

From here on, anytime we see the words "gun safety" just strike a line through it and replace it with "next step toward mass gun confiscation" because that is all ANY new law is going to be. They know it. We know it, so we might as well start calling a thing by its real name.

The leftists want nothing more than for all of us to be at the mercy of their political mobs in public and, increasingly, at our homes. The cops won't lift a finger to help you, except to maybe fill out some paperwork well after the incident when its safe for them to get off their asses. Note the lack of any arrests of any of the *******s assaulting anyone on the right. And don't hold your breath waiting for any of them to risk their paychecks and pension by refusing to do confiscating firearms. I think the number of cops who have refused to take part any gun confiscation so far is ZERO.

Apparently survivors of that event were present at the bar last night...

12 killed with a handgun? This must be a hoax. Everyone knows you can only kill that many at once with a semi-auto rifle...

I was awoken about 20 minutes ago by my daughter calling to inform me that she "is safe."

I'm like...dafuq? Safe?

She tells me about the shooting, as it is about 2 miles from her house, and it is a college line dancing place for her college. She has been there in the past.

Classes have not been cancelled, so it may be a sign that the students were not killed, but that is not yet determined.

That is all I have.

After seeing Wifi's pic, is PTSD treated with SSRIs?

I find it very odd that so many gun control parents don't see this pic as the only line of defense to protect their very own children in an immediate threat.

The VA pushes SSRIs to people who suffer from PTSD. They also push vaccinations. So far I have strenuously resisted these things.

ALL docs do. The bad news is that they produce suicides at an insane rate, and once in a while they produce homicidal maniacs -- like, it appears, this one.

I went to my BAS when I was still in the USMC for mild PTSD/ anxiety and not being able to sleep. When I walked out I was issued about six different medicines to sleep and some SSRIs. I was flabbergasted that they would give me that amount of drugs without even thinking about it. I think I took an ambiene once before I said the heck with that. I still don't sleep well but at least I'm not on all those drugs. The problem with the VA is that they just want to issue you drugs and send you on your way. They don't care to find out what the root of the problem is.

So is the college in this town one of the places where white men are publicly and loudly called every name in the book, now also including "terrorist" along with the other long list of "-ists"? Gee, you take someone who isn't wrapped all that tight to start with, give him world class training to kill people and break things, screw up his wet-ware with drugs known to produce spree killers and drop him in an environment where he's routinely demonized and you get **** like last night. Only big surprise with a recipe like that should be that it doesn't happen more often.

What's amazing is that the suicide rate is some 45,000 a year, that are successful. That's over 120 per day. However, the attempted rate is closer to 850,000 per year.

Preventable medical mistakes kill 400,000 a year that we know of, it's probably higher.

Nobody seems to care.

@Tdurden,

There are multiple colleges in the area, among them CSU Northridge, Cal Luthran, and Pepperdine. My daughter is president at Pepperdine and was going to go to the "college night" (18 and over) at that establishment, but passed because she was feeling ill. The kid from her school that was killed was an associate of hers. She didn't tell me when she called this morning, but I just got the data dump from her little brother.

Pepp is, as colleges go, fairly conservative (not quite BYU or Liberty U, but more on that side than most of what we hear about) and not really into the hatred, or at least as much, as elsewhere. It still exists in some forms, but is still somewhat of an oddity compared to how it is at other universities.

I don't know for sure, but I think the perp was more associated with CSUN than any of the others.

No, its predominantly white, and fairly conservative by California standards. Kind of a mini-Orange County. It's a somewhat isolated exurb of Los Angeles, upscale, quiet... the kind of place where folks move to to get out of the city so their kids can go to nice schools and live in peace. Riff raff is priced out of the real estate market. It's heavily policed, and it's been one of the top 5 "safest cities in the US" for years.

Eleua - As parents we never want to hear those we care for and are expected to protect are put into a dangerous situation especially a situation cause by a lunatic we have no control over.

For what it is worth I am happy that it was your daughter who called you with the disturbing news. And although there are 12 families that are having to deal with this tragedy, families that will never be the same. Thankfully one of those families is NOT yours! And that is worth celebrating.

From the little you have posted about her she seems like a great daughter and I hope you are able to share many more wonderful years with her.

The next time you get a chance to see her please give her a hug from all of us from your Market-Ticker family.
