What Happens When They Get It Wrong?
[Comments enabled]

There's never a bad side to "automation" that could indicate an impending suicide, right?

After all nobody wants suicide.

If the software detects a potential suicide, it alerts a team of Facebook workers who specialize in handling such reports. The system suggests resources to the user or to friends of the person such as a telephone help line. Facebook workers sometimes call local authorities to intervene.

Uh huh.

And if there's no suicide in process or about to take place?

"Local authorities" don't always simply knock on the door.  If there's no answer they are at least somewhat-likely to kick it down, guns drawn.

It is simply a matter of time before someone gets shot this way -- or worse.  Maybe it will be the person who was "allegedly intending" to commit suicide.  Or maybe it will be a cop.

Or maybe -- just maybe -- someone will game this thing to get Facesucker to send the authorities to a house full of explosives on purpose.  AIs are at their core all simply pattern-recognition engines and while Facesucker claims it's got plenty of human intervention involved if you believe that then look at what Youtube has recently had happen with their allegedly-expert means of "interdicting" inappropriate sexual content.  May I remind you that Google arguably has the "best" AI technology in the world?

Oh, and let's not forget that Zuckerpig and Facesuck have intentionally manipulated you to feel ****ty in the first place -- so they can give you that "hit" of dopamine and keep you coming back.  It's intentional, it's been admitted to and yet you.... do nothing about it.

So about that "there's never any harm in this" thing......

This makes me wonder which other patterns of behavior Facebook will helpfully be trying to detect?

Why stop there, don't like someone? Feel like you want some revenge?

SWATting is already a "thing" and has been for quite a while. I've never heard of anyone going to jail for doing it either, although I suspect a few people have.

This will make it MUCH easier, and from a "burner" location or device damn near impossible to prosecute.

So what is next? I post that I am felling kind of down today does the FaceSuck app notify my doctor for a mental health eval, or just create a prescription request to Expresscripts for anti-depressants that show up in the mail the next day?

Does FaceSuck start offering a service where employers can screen for suicidal candidates?

If FaceSuck repeatedly calls 911 for me incorrectly will EMS start charging me?

As Karl has pointed out when will FaceSuck admit that they are the source of people felling depressed and suicidal from looking at everybody else's happy, perfect life posts?

At the end of the day you cannot protect people from themselves. If somebody makes the decision that they do not want to go on living anymore is it morally wrong to prevent that? Do they not have free will over their own body?

I have been Facebook free for over 4 months (thanks Karl). I figure I have gotten back about 90 to 120 hours of my life in that time that was just pissed away scrolling through worthless posts. About a half dozen times I have been asked 'did you see that on Facebook?' and I just say 'Nope, don't care'.

In many states they are trying to get such a thing to be grounds to confiscate your firearms. So that'll be awesome.

Lol....if a terrorist were smarter he'd use this system self-induced terrorist attack system. No need to die for all those bearded virgins-lol.

Would be easy to keep responders tied up to commit more profitable crimes too.

First came the idea and it was exploited. Then the exploit was exploited. And then came another "bright" idea. -lol

Sounds the ground work for some sort of mental health profiling AI. Wonder why you cannot get hired, promoted, get a good rate on your homeowners insurance. The customer profiling algorithms are kept secret better than the formula for Coca Cola. You as a citizen have to seriously look at what your digital activities say about you and what data you are feeding into the system.

Or maybe you're feeling depressed, Facebook sends the cops, and whammo, you're caught with possession of contraband, including your pot and who knows what else in the privacy of your home.

Half a mile line of site to your secure Perimeter isn't enough.

You need at least a mile now.
Throw in a jamming device too.

If you know that you will lose in court or be tied up for years, some people will pursue an out of court settlement, one way or the other.

Well if you were not feeling depressed you are certainly depressed now and a bit pissed off. -lol.
Damn that AI must be psychic too. How did it know that? /sarc off

Nothing like a self-fulfilling "prophecy".

Nah, man - it'll come by Amaze-a-Drone.

That whole "due process" thing really took a beating with asset forfeiture, and here we are riding the slippery slope.

Best case then is to have no assets and be a leach-net-net then. Karl's advice is ever more appropriate. Wind it down.

I think the reference to "out of court settlements" may have been more along the lines of the "100 heads insurance company" type......

But I could be wrong....
