Gee I wonder why this was too controversial to air?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgxbDZc4oNk

I also wonder exactly how many Americans feel this way too.....

Because unlike Obama's golf game there are no "Mulligans" if you get this one wrong.

Not everyone likes country music - or any particular kind of music. I think the music detracts from the message and encourages people to think that concern over guns rights is limited to rural areas and the South.

Not to nit-pick, but that's not country music.

This is country music:

Funny how elitists out themselves... A friend of my kid is from a wealthy family, is very "sophisticated", snobbish, and for (unknown to me) reasons decided to go to college at Chapel Hill. She transferred after the first year, telling my kid it was so unbearable because even the "smart ones sounded like hicks" in the South. smiley

The reverb feedback in the ad is horrible and I can barely understand a word it is saying. I'd like to think that's why it was pulled but it wasn't.

I didn't say I don't like country music. I like some. I didn't say I think guns rights are only the concern of rural or southern people. I just think the music detracts from the message and lends itself to caricature. If pointing out the obvious - that not everyone likes country music - makes me an elitist, well...whatever. I think it'd be a better ad without the music.

I imagine the point of the music was the song it was taken from (Johnny Cash's "God's Gonna Cut You Down").

i wonder if it'd be better received with "1812 Overture" cannonade instead.

I play bluegrass. I listen to folk and country (minus the "pop country") and I completely agree with Mortgageguymn.

Folks here are discerning enough to ignore something that seems superfluous, but obviously this ad is made with intent of informing/persuading a large segment of the population. It's a mistake to contribute to the asinine stereotype that only rural, Southern folks care all that much about this "gun stuff."

Just my two cents.

Cheesy. If SWAT showed up at the average obese couch potato gun owner's home, they'd shat in their pants and do as told.

So I hope I've posted enough here that I'm not perceived to be a troll, but here goes anyway.

I like the historical event behind that commercial a lot. I think the music and the voice of the narrator wouldn't cause an eye to blink in some regions of this country. I believe the overall message might cause a broader group of Americans to seriously re-think their stand on the Second Amendment if the narrator's accent was not so regionalized and if the music had a broader appeal. The sad fact is that lots of human beings are easily influenced by stereotypes. It is unfortunate that the narrator's accent and the musical genre would open the commercial up to serious lampooning of certain stereotypes, thus causing a lot of people to overlook the message.

That said, I'd bet you money Clear Channel would not allow the ad to run under any circumstances.

Cheesy hell! It might be for someone up north, but in Texas that statement is part of our fabric. As far as the music goes? Would you really want a gun confiscated English rock sound? In fact, where do you idiots think rock and roll came from? Hank Jr. knew.

The real question is what can government make us do? In truth, nothing. But, the gun grabbers want government to make us do alot. Look at that NYC bastard, Bloomberg. No smoking outside? No large cold drinks? It will be cuts of meat sold in packages less than a pound before long or banned altogether. They take our guns, they can order us to eat **** or go to jail and eat it or starve.

It is time Americans study the bill of rights. Most Americans knew the Constitution was written by men that had little intention of following it and had their own self interest and not ours at heart. Most states wouldn't have passed it without the bill of rights. If the bill of rights are not part of your state Constitution, I would suggest you move, as there are NAZI's and other socialist thugs running your state. The Fed should not be able to supercede the law of the land nor the law of the several states. We should vote against all elected officials from local, county and state that refuse to recognize these rights. This includes Judges, who are elected in Texas.
