RIMM Is Still Not Learning

The cause of the ~3% selloff today appears to be this:

(Reuters) - Research In Motion chose its home country to launch a PlayBook tablet with built-in support for cellular networks, a crucial feature that its initial models lacked.

But still no open access for Andoid applications.

That is, no "break the glass" changes -- just more attempts to follow other people.

It won't work.  When you're in this sort of box you must break the glass.

Sprint did so, and went from being a clear bankruptcy candidate with a real potential to lose financing and die to a company where that potential is off the table, and the shares have more than doubled in response.

RIMM has utterly failed to understand that this is the key to the firm's success.  It either finds a way to "break the glass" in its execution or it will die.

It doesn't have a lot of time either. While the company has cash and no debt it's burning that cash now.

The company must break the glass -- now.

Management either is too stupid to understand, or doesn't care.

Disclosure: If you don't understand my sentiment from the above you're dumber than Thorsten Heins -- and that's quite an accomplishment.

Karl someone at Sprint figured out your strategy. One can hope it could make a nice long. Do you still believe their OS is a better platform? What about the new MSFT mobile platform?

Here's a little tidbit that might shock you: Heins said in an interview that RIMM seriously considered switching to Android entirely:

http://www.bgr.com/2012/08/03/rim-ceo-th....

In the name of God, why? All they have to do is open the platform to GAPPS and they get all the advantages of being in the Android space without sacrificing the considerable advantages of the QNX-based BB10!

Once again, Heins and the rest of RIMM management prove that they couldn't find their own ass with both hands and a GPS-equipped BlackBerry...

I'd argue it's Karl and TF that are not learning. It's the same RIM.
