You always have the choice of not voting at all, thus not giving your share of legitimacy to either crook #1 or crook #2.
If everyone does that, the day would come when 95% of those eligible to vote would abstain, and the "winner" would have 2% of the votes, the runner-up 1.5% etc etc.
In that situation - now, granted, I don't know US election rules, being north of the Canadian border myself, and from Europe originally - but either the entire election will be invalid, or if they still say it's valid and the candidate #1 gets to be the president it would be such an obvious farce that no one in the world (and in the US) could believe that that person represents the will of the people.
And you will not sully your hands (or, should I say "sully your vote"?) by electing a person you know to be a crook.

Edited to add - I realize when the vote gets low enough they will simply make it mandatory to vote without shame. But this will put them squarely in the camp of third world nations that have one party rule. Perhaps it will even make some realize both parties are branches of The Banker Party.
