If you buy the initial offering how long do you have to keep your shares before flipping and walking away with a profit?

Jal: No, you can sell any time. However, the brokers will usually threaten to blackball you from future IPOs if you do.

I was threatened several times in the 1990s but never actually blackballed.

etrade orders are severely ****ed up. taking forever to cancel. had a limit sell at 40 and the market was at 40.20 and no fill. wtf???

Didn't FB also***** off the establishment by letting the Everyman get IPO shares? Perhaps they can engineer a fail to prevent anyone else from cutting in to the profit making IPO game played by the large tade desks.

Yep.

TD Ameritrade has a "no flip" policy in which IPO shares have to be held for 30 days.

If you can sell at any time, but if it's in the first 30 days you won't be eligible to take in future IPO's (like 90 days for a first "offense).


The ****ty part is that people not in the IPO were able to buy shares for 38 bucks on the ****ing dot.

Not sure what you are trying to say here but I had multiple limit sell orders in that were well over the bid price not executed and multiple cancels that took many minutes to be confirmed.

NASDAQ had 3 or 4 months to prepare for this and dropped the ****ing ball big time. All in all it was a big waste of time for me getting filled at essentially breakeven.

The spin machine is running wide open, there is a hot IPO to drag everyone to focus on the markets - and the markets are down. I'm seeing the NASDAQ down 0.75% at 11:50.

That sounds more like ``spin machine fail'' than ``market mania.''

A man I met casually who said he had run some kind of internet company, talked about a direct feed from Facebook to a DIA server farm on the next floor storing stuff. He said it was almost to the point where you were better off creating a false internet persona. My recollection of the details may not be exactly right but that was the gist of it. FWIW
