So You Want To Vote, Eh?

Pick your poison.  One is marked "Arsenic", the other "Cyanide":

A firm that was one of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s top financial boosters in March is owned by a former Fidelity Investments trader who settled a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation in 2008.

Seaspray Partners LLC of Palm Beach, Florida, gave $400,000 on March 1 to Restore Our Future, a political action committee that supports Romney, according to a report filed yesterday with the Federal Election Commission. It was the sixth-largest gift last month to the super-PAC backing the former Massachusetts governor.

That's nice.  Scott DeSano, who runs the firm, resigned from Fidelity in 2007 and settled an SEC investigation in 2008 alleging that he improperly accepted gifts from prospective clients.

Now why would you do something like that?  What possible motivation is there for such an action?  Oh, let your imagination run riot.

Update 4/25: Bloomberg has retracted the original article and amended the linked article with the following:

Because of a “clerical” error, the super-PAC’s public report included the wrong address for contributor SeaSpray Partners LLC, said Brittany Gross, Restore Our Future’s spokeswoman, in an e-mail. “We will be filing an amended report” to the FEC “in the coming days to reflect the correct address for the company,” she said.

Gross declined to give more information about the real SeaSpray donor while saying it “has nothing to do with” Scott DeSano, the business owner who was identified in a Bloomberg April 20 article. DeSano didn’t return a reporter’s calls before publication. After the article was published, he told Bloomberg he didn’t make the contribution.

The Market Ticker strives to be accurate; we, however, are constrained by what's reported through other media and in the public record, including FEC reports.  Since this retraction was posted by Bloomberg The Market Ticker also retracts any allegation that DeSano was involved, since that -- and the erroneous FEC filing -- is where the information came from.

Unfortunately there is no longer any way to know who gave the $400k (or whatever it actually was, since the filing was wrong.  Mr. DeSano should not be associated with either this or Corzine, since the reports linking him to the original activity have been retracted by the source.

You don't have to use your imagination for this one though:

Jon Corzine -- under federal and congressional investigation following accusations that the securities firm he headed illegally took clients' funds before collapsing -- is among President Obama's top re-election campaign bundlers, raising at least $500,000, according to the campaign’s filing Friday with the Federal Election Commission.

Naw, in this case the issue is "in your face" to the tune of a clean billion dollars of client money that seems to be "missing."  And I put "missing" in quotes because it's not missing; nobody "loses" a billion smackers.

Oh no, they know exactly where the money is.  But receiving stolen property (in this case cash) appears not to apply to certain privileged people, and thus they haven't been forced to give it back.  Nor has anyone gone to jail for stealing it.

Now there are those, I'm sure, who argue that this isn't really stealing, but I'm also very sure that the farmers and ranchers who got hosed in the bum would disagree vehemently with that assertion.

In any event what we have here is a political class infused with sleaze and payoffs of one sort or another; if you believe there's any material difference between them you're simply nuts. Both of these candidates are not only interested in seeing you, the common man, get hosed, but they're also very interested in destroying what is left of your right to personal protection of your life and liberty.

Gee, I wonder why those two things go together?

I think I'll vote for this guy:

Beelzebub: When you just can't vote for the lesser of evils any longer.

I didn't believe it at first, so I had to go to the Obama-Biden site and look for Corzine.

He is there, its a 1Q2012 report, and his name is in the 500,000+ category.

I'm going to be pointing this out to family and friends.

Not that it'll matter to the Beelzebub 2012 folks, but DeSano was already investigated and fined. Corzine has not yet been investigated. I don't know who would have jurisdiction over Corzine, but I presume that Eric Holder might have the authority, if he weren't too busy thanking Al Sharpton for his assistance in the Trayvon Martin race war. Romney is just an ex-governor and has no ability to prosecute anyone. Obama could order Holder to investigate Corzine. Romney also has no ability to stop a US citizen from contributing to any super-PAC they want to. I find it a false equivalency to equate DeSano to Corzine, when Obama is in a position to bring about an investigation (and prosecution) of Corzine, but instead leaves him free to drum up campaign contributions.

Amen, Punch - the absolute BEST episode of South Park, ever. And that's actually quite an accomplishment.

Now, as to the actual Ticker... I believe what this has all taught me is the most frightening thing of all: they are no longer even attempting to hide their illegalities and obviously ridiculous behaviors; it's all completely in the open and they're without fear.

This is the end, my friends. Prepare, prepare, PREPARE. It cannot be said enough.

Were there actual venture capital to be had these days (thank you and **** YOU the Bernank), I'd be opening my first business: "The Prepper's Warehouse." Damn that would be a blast, and be doing BOOMING business in the day and age.

I wouldn't write in Beelzebub...make your vote count.

There has to be atleast minor differences between the both, no?

JWM, they'll get noticed, sure - and TPTB will LOVE it. They'll know they've finally one, since they'll have free reign to put up even ****tier douchebags who WILL rubberstamp anything that comes through.

If you think that they'll "get noticed and change for the better!", then my friend you've become naive in your old age. They'll LOVE it and probably find a way to "vote" for you in your absence.

Whoever the media, Hollywood and late night talk show hosts hate most is at least a step in the right direction. It should be obvious by now who they campaign for 24x7. It would help alot if whoever is elected, that the people who elect them would hold their feet over a fire. We certainly don't have any checks and balances in the media.

JWM - I don't. Hell, I'm 36 and I consider myself to be "in my old age." Between the cluster**** that healthcare is and will soon be, the crash that's a comin' MIGHTY ****ING HARD, and the likelihood that I'm on several "lists" as "someone who doesn't play nicely with those who would be slaves," I figure I might not have all THAT much longer to go.

Voting hasn't worked. Every single one of them who's gotten in has been party to the serial dry-crackin' violation we've endured, and rather than lubing it up or letting it heal, TPTB seem to be wanting to double-down and go for the DP. There's no good way out of this mess.

There is no rule that voting has to be Repub or Dem. Nothing is stopping a group of people from starting some sort of centrist party without any of the bs. Nothing except the belief by tens of millions that their 'side' still offers the best solutions.

I have to admit that I have flip flopped on this subject. For me it comes down to the reality of the situation and that is a third party candidate will not win the election. Even if you could get someone to win 20% of the vote it would just split one parties vote and leave Obummer the winner. The questions I ask myself are:

Which candidate will erode our rights faster (Obummer)
Which candidate will try and take away our means (guns) of protecting ourselves (Obummer)
Which candidate will bankrupt the country faster (Obummer)

Which is why I will be voting for Romney.
