Memo To Bloomberg: F*** Off (2nd Amendment)

From the daily rag of gun-haters everywhere:

The 2008 election of Barack Obamawas a boon to gunmakers. Now the gun lobby, gathered at theNational Rifle Association’s convention in St. Louis today, is using the prospect of his re-election to again stoke fear --which may be good for the industry’s bottom line but not for the country.

Oh really?  This isn't about what you think is "good for the country" (or your view of it), it is what the Constitution recognizes.

The triumph of a lobby devoted to expanding gun rights and increasing gun sales has created challenges for communities and states that do not share the National Rifle Association’s belief that an unfettered right to carry and use guns -- concealed or in the open, at church or at school, individually or in bulk, seated or standing one’s ground -- is the “essence of what being American is all about,” according to NRA Chief Executive Officer Wayne LaPierre.

The NRA cannot "expand" gun rights.  This sort of journalistic trick is all too common and it is time for all honest Americans to call these institutions out and put a stop to this nonsense.

A primer is appropriate here.

A right cannot be bestowed by a government.  All rights exist as a consequence of some inherent property.  The Declaration of Independence traces rights to our Creator (God, if you prefer, Darwin if you do not) and therefore declares the existence of rights.  It does not confer them because they are not the government's to begin with.

Bloomberg doesn't recognize this because Bloomberg (the man) and Bloomberg (the business rag) believes that government owns you and everything that happens around you.  It therefore may dispense privileges as it sees fit, up to and including the privilege to live when you are being assaulted by a murderous thug.

This devolves from the fact that Bloomberg heads one arm of said government.  His position and the position of his rag is that he is King.  Not a duly-elected figurehead to preside over a political subdivision that is charged with seeing that your rights are protected and enforce, but rather one that has dominion over every scrap of land and water within that subdivision and everything that occurs on, above or below it.

This is not civil government, it is tyranny.  It is in fact the very definition of tyranny.

And yet we have many in this nation who cheer it.

Rights -- as recognized by the Declaration and Constitution -- are yours to use as you see fit so long as you do not impinge on someone else's rights.  That is, you have a right to life.  From this right flows the Second Amendment -- the absolute authority in civil order to prevent your life from being taken by another through the use of the only technology available that equalizes all persons in personal combat: The Gun.

The Gun makes the 4'11" 90lb woman the equal of the 220lb 6' male who wishes to mug her.  It makes the 80 yr old feeble old man who used to be a 220lb 6' male able to stop his younger counterpart that likewise wishes to rob or brutalize him.  It makes even the odds between an 18 year old gay man and 6 homophobic teens who wish to pound his head in because he appears effeminate.   It equalizes the odds between a Korean shop-keeper and an angry mob that intends to burn his store because they're*****ed off at the verdict in a trial.  In short The Gun makes all men and women equal when it comes to the odds of outcome should one individual or group of individuals wish to assault another.  The Gun is therefore the primary and in fact only security mechanism for the first and supreme of all rights over others -- the Right To Life.

Guns are in fact used over a million times a year to stop violent felonies and in virtually every case no shot is fired.  Read that again folks: One million violent crimes are prevented or aborted even with the highly-restrictive firearms laws we have now.

Yes, there were 14,748 homicides and manslaughters in 2010 (latest data available) in the United States and the majority (70-some percent) involved a firearm.  But homicide didn't even make the 15 top leading causes of death in 2010.  You're far more likely to die of heart disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease (read: emphysema), stroke, accident, alzheimers, diabetes, the flu, suicide, chronic liver disease (that is, drinking yourself to death), hypertension (high blood pressure), parkinsons or pneumonia than to be murdered.

And as "the gun lobby" has won, crimes have declined even though population continues to increase.  This shouldn't surprise anyone; the risk of being caught by the police is real, but the risk of being shot by your intended victim is real, personal and if it happens immediate.  There is no judge, no jury and no appeal nor do you get to claim a notch on your stick for having "gone to the big house" for a while.

When one considers that the FBI says there were 1.3 million violent crimes in total in 2010, The Gun, and its personal ownership, has literally reduced the incidence of said violent crime by half, and in nearly all cases the weapon is not fired.

There are also very ugly internal numbers in the data that nobody wants to talk about, but we damn well need to.  For instance (all according to the FBI):

  • 77% of the murder victims were male
  • 48.6% (nearly half) were black -- although only about 13% of the population is black
  • Of the total number of victims of homicide 64% were from 13-39 in age.
  • Of the total number of offenders, 46%, or almost half, were from 17 - 34 years of age.  By the time a man reaches the age of 45 he is only 20% as likely to commit a murder as he was at 20.
  • From ages 13-16 blacks commit 42% more murders than whites, from 17-19 they commit 69% more murders, from 20-24 they commit 33% more murders and from 25-29 they commit 23% more murders.  It is not until 30-34 that whites, who are a far larger segment of the population, "catch up."

For this reason if anything black people should be demanding that they all be able to carry openly or concealed as they choose at all times, which is every person's right as guaranteed (but not granted) by The Constitution -- period -- as they are more-likely to be victimized by another black person than anything else and they are dramatically more-likely to be victimized on a per-capita basis than white people are -- by members of their own race!

Now let's face a few more facts that nobody wants to talk about.

The original gun laws were passed to keep freed slaves from owning arms.  Gee, I wonder why that was important to people just like Bloomberg?

The formula these people use is quite simple and has been repeated through out history in the 20th Century (and is now being repeated in the 21st):

  • Stir up hatred (Trayvon Martin anyone?)
  • Add Government (convert rights into "privileges", then withdraw them)
  • Disarm the citizens through this campaign

Then kill them all.

Really.

Tired of this crap?

I sure am.  And so are the 170 million people killed during the 20th Century alone by this mechanism.

Do you think you should do something about it before you're next?

Continue your reading right here and "embrace your inner Jew."

No, you don't have to be Jewish, although if you're Christian you most-certainly came from there.

One question: do Bloomberg or his bodyguards carry firearms?

If the answer is "yes," then he needs to STFU permanently about the issue.

It amazes me with those statistics that we are not allowed to talk about this. It makes to absolutely clear that stereotypes are correct. Im sorry to offend any blacks but i am extremely suspicious of most of the blacks i see. Its a shame such a huge percentage of them have to be criminals. One of the funniest, nicest guys i have ever met was a 60 year old retired usps worker who is black. I worked as a team with me and him 5 days a week for a year. He was the coolest old guy i ever met. He is of a dying generation though. Now its all about the thug life. Its a shame.

It really goes beyond 'Black'. It's all about the culture they have embraced. You could probably replace 'Black' with any other race, and get the same result if such a culture were embraced by that race. They ridicule their peers who work hard and succeed, or want to get out of the dead end neighborhoods. They are "being too 'White'" by wanting to better themselves. Violence is the order of the day.

Mix in the backdrop of the drug prohibition with the black markets that are created around it, and the restrictive firearms laws in the big cities and you have a recipe for disaster.

KD, thank you for this post. One Q: Can you give me the quick course in how to post a link to this on my Facebook account? Please. I have a pic with me holding my Citori and I get so much flak about it. I do not know if it is possible to find but there was a great editorial by G. Gordon Liddy in Forbes magazine about 20 years ago on guns, criminals (guess what race), and the protection of one's home and loved ones.

Almost 52% of those convicted of murder are black. Want to take a guess at how many are black males? Black males of age probably comprises 5% of the population? Now what percentage of black males are raised by poor families? (I'm assuming most of middle income families don't have kids in gangs)

72% of black children are raised by a single parent. Its 25.8% if you include all Americans.

There is a tremendous tragedy going on in the US right now and it is the liberal destruction of the black male in our society. When will we stop with the failed policies of handouts and start asking people to take responsibility for themselves?

You can even take it one step farther.. The rate of fatherless households in the Black community began to skyrocket before they embraced that thug/gang culture.

WTF did the men go? I'm not sure.. Were they replaced by Big-Daddy Gov?

I can tell ya this much.. The minute my kids try to take one little sniff of that culture, I'm there to set em straight.. And I'm sure that was true of your Black friend, as well. Hell any responsible father, any man who cares about his kids would steer them away from that culture.

Freakonomics makes a really good case that Roe v. Wade is primary reason that crime has gone down and continued to go down for the last 20 years.

The media/24 hour "news" channels are responsible for making it seem like crime is out of control and getting worse.

I applaud Karl for having the courage for making the point that about half the crime in the country is committed by black males, 16-35 years old who are only about 2-3% of the population. Even Jesse Jackson said something to the effect that if he were to be approached by men in a dark alley, he'd be relieved upon learning they were white instead of black. This is not so much a statement about race as it is a statement of race and sex. Black women of all ages commit crime at lower rates than white men.

We have this situation in this country where big money and politicians have become the criminal class. Of course they do not want you to have guns because an armed population stands in the way of their continued criminal activity. Of course they do not consider themselves criminal, they just brush it off as the way business gets done. They got shook up with OWS and must have thought to themselves "What if they figure us out? We are all going to hang!" So an unfortunate Trayvon happened upon the scene and they pounced upon it as a diversion so they can continue heisting the loot.

Frat,

I couldn't agree more with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 44, have never held a gun, let alone fired or owned one, but short a nuke, tank, or bazooka, it is well within someone's right to carry one.

How freakin' hard is it for people to read the constitution? Even I believe people are granted the right (even that isn't really the proper way of saying it, since I believe the founders accepted that one would have a gun).

Every time the SCOTUS rules that the second amendment speaks of incorporation or some such term as they make up, I want to puke. Especially, when the same court holds that companies are people or that the first amendment isn;t interpreted the same way as the second by the same group of flunkies.

Forgive the rant at this point, but...I struggle with my belief in this country. On one hand I have a wife, two kids and great friends that I would hate to see go through a civil war. On the other hand, this country needs a good shake up. Too many Sharptons, Jacksons, Bushes, Clintons, Obummers, Haley Barbour (let's just pardon everyone in Mississippi before I am done!). Even Ron Paul, blechhhhhh!

Look, I am not naive enough to believe in American Exceptionalism or that salvery never happened, but heck, this country used to have something going for it. Freedom and the ability to better one's self and family/community.

I will leave this rant with the following comment from Lou Dobbs (love him or hate, just read the statement about the country he made from 4 years ago). I was just watching him discuss the mortgage meltdown (the reason I was watching him, to begin with) and he closed with the floowing question (nothing about faith/religion/etc. was implied)..."Is America a country with morals and laws and concern for one another, or, is it just about stepping over and on top of everyone to get to the top of the ladder." Forgive my paraphrase, but that is about 90% right. That question has echoed and haunted me? for the last four years. Unfortunately, with few exceptions and a small minority in this country, I think we all know the real answer to that question.

Sorry for the rant, it is just the endless barrage of nonsense and selfishness in this country that is zapping me. Oh well, time for a green or is it blue pill? I have forgotten!

The Great Society social programs enticed the males to not live with their families. When it was launched social workers blanketed the black communities explaining how they can get assistance. The quickest and best paying situation was for families where only the mother was in the home so many fathers moved out so they could get the checks not realizing it would destroy the family unit.

I witnessed this first hand in 1977/1978 when about half of my coworkers in the steel mill were blacks. They were all fine upstanding family men that lived with their wives and children. After the social workers explained how they could get money from the government if the father was not in the home. Many of the men lived in the same community so the men all moved out to live together in a house near their wives so the wives could get the checks. Within a year or so the men were drinking and partying and chasing women which resulted in them getting divorces.

I believe that was the trigger that lead to the breakup of the black families.

What total absolute crap. You cannot corrupt an honest man! These hypocrits already had a morality problem if they somehow believed that "scamming" the system would make the family richer.

My father - a construction foreman- was absent from the time I was in the 7th grade to the time I graduated from college because of his job. I might have seen him for 1 month a year. He supported his family with no government aid!

I always new he was there even if absent physically for most of my early life. His absence was not an invitation to do as I pleased. I respected my father too much. He expected me to do my part in those hard times.

IS,

That was my lament about this country. By the time I get to nukes, tanks, and bazookas, it is already game over. Sadly, I fear the time for these things you point out in your post are soon to be here!

While I appreciate your POV, I realize that I don't stand a chance against the military might of the US, which is why I struggle with my love for this country and a new start for this country.

The problem is how we get there. I feel many of us won't make it!
